The story of King George's Hall at Bay View, Napier, is a fascinating piece of Hawke's Bay History.

One hundred years ago, on the afternoon of 22 June 1911 - the time of King George V's coronation at Westminster Abbey, London - the people of Petane (Bay View of today) dressed in their winter-best outfits and assembled on Hill Road. They were celebrating the coronation in their own way. They raised the flag, posed for the photographer and turned to the business of the day. They were going to drive the first pile into the ground for their new hall, a community building that would become King George's Hall.
