Although Freeview Terrestrial has commenced from Mt Erin, TVHB has not joined the Freeview group.  TVHB continues to broadcast on UHF Analogue to Hawke's Bay

How to receive TVHB through your Freeview Decoder

If you have Freeview Terrestrial and do not see TVHB in your channel list, try activating your "channel search" again, searching in Digital and Analogue mode.  TVHB should then appear in the channel list.  The signal may be a little more snowy than the other channels.  This will be cured when TVHB switches to Digital next year.

Satellite Freeview

Digital Satellite Freeview is broadcast from the same satellite as SkyTV.

TVHB's CHATROOM programme may be viewed on satellite via STRATOS TV, Channel89 on SkyTV and Channel21 on Freeview Satellite.  The entire TVHB programme lineup may only be seen by switching to TVHB in Hawke's Bay.

The Future

  • In 2008 Freeview "Terrestrial" rolled out in New Zealand.
  • One of those areas is Hawke's Bay.
  • About 18 channels are expected to become available on Digital Terrestrial in Hawke's Bay.
  • TVHB will eventually become one of the Digital Terrestrial channels in Hawke's Bay.
  • The cost of setup to receive Digital Terrestrial will be considerably less than to receive satellite.  No dish will be required.  The advantage of Digital Terrestrial includes High Definition TV.  HD TV via satellite is limited
  • Freeview Terrestrial will be received on an existing UHF aerial plus a set top box costing about $150.
